Kirby Chown

Kirby Chown is a litigator called to the Bar of Ontario in 1981. She was a partner in the litigation group at McCarthy Tétrault and was the Ontario Regional Managing Partner of the firm until her retirement in 2009. Her practice was focussed on medical malpractice defence work assisting physicians in civil suits and before the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. During her tenure at the firm she was instrumental in initiating programs to assist women lawyers. She was awarded the Law Society Medal in 2008 for her contributions in this regard. Post retirement, she remains involved as co-chair of the Large Firm Working Group in the Justicia Project of the Law Society of Upper Canada focussed on the retention and advancement of women lawyers. She is currently Chair of the Board of Save the Children Canada. She also sits as an Alternate Chair of the Ontario Review Board, which deals with mentally disordered criminal offenders.
